MONROVIA – Liberia’s drive to deepen ties with China has gained momentum as a 14-member Chinese delegation, led by Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong, arrived in Monrovia for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and investment opportunities. The visit, which follows recent high-level engagements spearheaded by Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, marks a significant step in Liberia’s efforts to attract international partnerships in trade, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
The delegation’s arrival is a direct result of the China-Liberia Trade and Investment Forum held in Shenzhen in September 2024 during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). During their stay, the visiting officials are expected to meet with senior Liberian government officials, engage in business-to-business discussions, and tour sites identified for potential Chinese investment.
Describing the visit as historic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it underscores a renewed chapter in Liberia’s relationship with the People’s Republic of China, with a focus on practical cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to both nations.
