MONROVIA – The Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP), a long-standing student political movement at the University of Liberia, on Friday, April 25, 2025, issued a sharp statement to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and his administration, announcing a day of action set for Monday, April 28, 2025, in what the group describes as a defense of democracy.
The planned protest, according to SUP, is in response to growing concerns over threats to democratic governance, violations of student rights, and a lack of transparency and accountability in both national leadership and university administration. The group said it is determined to amplify the voice of students and citizens alike, demanding a government that respects civil liberties and fosters open democratic engagement.
In its statement, SUP also turned its attention to internal matters at the University of Liberia, singling out the current Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Sekou Konneh. The group declared Konneh “wanted,” accusing him of failing to address critical student concerns and mismanaging his responsibilities.
SUP’s leadership said the Dean has become unresponsive to student needs, contributing to a widening trust deficit between the student body and the university administration. They are calling for immediate intervention and engagement from Mr. Konneh to resolve what they described as long-standing grievances that continue to undermine student welfare and participation.
