Tension In Lofa As Elder Disappears, Town Barricades Road And Holds Suspects

LOFA COUNTY – Ziggida town in Zeayeama Clan, Zorzor District, has been thrown into turmoil following the mysterious disappearance of an elder identified only as Sackie, who has not been seen for more than two weeks. The case has sparked anger and fear in the community, leading residents to block the main road with trees and rocks, effectively cutting off movement in and out of the area.

The tension escalated on Sunday when townspeople detained two residents, Zazay-Boi Kpadeh and Noowo-ku, accusing them of having knowledge of Sackie’s whereabouts. The two men, however, denied any wrongdoing, insisting that Sackie disappeared during a journey they undertook together to Eyeazu, a town in neighboring Guinea, on August 25.

According to Zazay-Boi, the trip was meant to perform a traditional ritual on behalf of Ziggida. He claimed that Sackie, who had been drinking, lagged behind on the return journey and was never seen again. “We thought he had returned to Eyeazu to rest, but when we went back to look for him, he was nowhere to be found,” Zazay-Boi explained, adding that he had since made efforts to trace Sackie without success.

The youth of Ziggida, dissatisfied with the explanation, accused the two men of hiding the truth and took them into custody. The situation intensified when officers of the Liberia National Police attempted to escort the suspects to Zorzor for formal investigation. Angry residents resisted, demanding that the men remain in town until Sackie is found.

As of Saturday evening, September 6, 2025, the town remained barricaded, with residents reinforcing the blockade and vowing not to lift it until Sackie is found. Local authorities have pledged to continue investigating the disappearance, but tensions remain high as fear and suspicion grip the community.
