MONROVIA, Liberia, August 11, 2026 – The United States Embassy in Monrovia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Liberia’s security and justice institutions, following a meeting between U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Joe Zadrozny and senior Liberian security officials.
Zadrozny met with Liberia National Police (LNP) Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman and Executive Protection Service (EPS) Director Sam Gaye as part of ongoing U.S.-Liberia cooperation aimed at strengthening law enforcement, accountability and the rule of law.
During the engagement, the U.S. diplomat reiterated Washington’s support for Liberia’s efforts to strengthen its security and legal institutions and promote law and order.
“A just and accountable legal system isn’t good just for Liberia — it’s good for regional stability and for the deep, enduring friendship between our two nations,” the U.S. Embassy said in a statement issued Monday, August 10.
Zadrozny also reaffirmed the United States’ continued partnership with the Government and people of Liberia, expressing a commitment to expanding cooperation on initiatives aimed at strengthening the security and prosperity of both countries.
The latest engagement comes as Liberia intensifies efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime, with authorities seeking increased international cooperation to strengthen investigations and prosecutions.
The United States has been a longstanding partner in Liberia’s security and justice sectors, providing training, technical assistance, equipment and institutional capacity-building to law enforcement and justice institutions.
Following Liberia’s civil wars, U.S. assistance contributed to efforts to rebuild and professionalize the Liberia National Police and strengthen institutions responsible for maintaining law and order.
U.S. support has also extended to Liberia’s justice sector, including efforts to strengthen the capacity of prosecutors, correctional institutions and other legal bodies while promoting accountability, access to justice and respect for human rights.
In combating transnational crime, U.S. agencies have worked with Liberian authorities to strengthen their ability to investigate and prosecute drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking and other organized criminal activities.
The partnership has also included support for maritime security and efforts to strengthen Liberia’s ability to protect its territorial waters and borders against illegal activities.
Washington has consistently emphasized civilian oversight, accountability, human rights and professional conduct as important components of security-sector development.
The renewed commitment comes amid heightened concern over narcotics trafficking in Liberia following major cocaine seizures and ongoing investigations into suspected international drug networks operating in the country.
Liberian authorities have recently sought assistance from the United States and other international partners to strengthen investigations into transnational narcotics trafficking and identify individuals and networks linked to the illicit trade.
