Bishop Samuel Jerome Quire, Jr., leader of the Liberia Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church, has assured the United Methodist Women Organization (UMWO) of his full support and encouragement as they work to strengthen the ministry of the Church.
He acknowledged the challenges the churches face as they navigate these complex social issues, noting that the global Methodist community is at a crossroads. To address these matters within Liberia. Bishop Quire further clarified UMC Liberia’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues and ensured that the church’s traditional beliefs remain intact.
Speaking from Chicago, United States of America, where he is attending the Council of Bishops Meeting, Bishop Quire extended profound gratitude to the women of the Liberia Annual Conference for their steadfast commitment and service.
His message of support comes at a pivotal time, following the United Methodist Women Organization’s successful leadership meeting, which convened over 90 representatives from 21 districts and one circuit within the Liberia Annual Conference.
The gathering, held under the theme “Women in Mission with a Vision: Not for Ourselves but for Others,” was a powerful demonstration of unity and resilience amid ongoing challenges, including misinformation and provocations from the Global Methodist Church (GMC) leadership in Liberia.
Mother Taryonnoh Doe, Directress for Women’s Work, and Mother Theresa Davies, 1st Associate Conference Lay Leader, along with the corps of officers, were commended by the Liberia Annual Conference for organizing the impactful meeting. “We are thrilled to witness such a strong turnout representing nearly all districts,” Mother Doe said. “This meeting is a profound testament to our collective commitment to mission and to the unity of the United Methodist Church.”
The leadership meeting not only fostered dialogue and shared experiences but also charted a renewed path forward for the organization. A major highlight was the election of a new caretaker leadership team: Mother Josephine Snorton as President and Mother Paulina Doe-Hilton as Vice President. Both leaders pledged their unwavering commitment to revitalizing the UMWO and advancing its sacred mission.
Meanwhile, the Conference Lay Leader, Cllr. Dr. Tolbert Nyenswah, also voiced the Board of Laity’s strong backing for the Women’s Organization. “We will do everything within our powers to empower the Women’s Organization to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” Dr. Nyenswah declared during his remarks at the meeting.
The United Methodist Women Organization expressed deep appreciation to all participants for their dedication and contributions.
