RIA, Liberia, September 3, 2026 — Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr., president of the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church, has arrived in Liberia to participate in the 2026 Africa College of Bishops Meeting.
The meeting, hosted by the Liberia Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church, brings together active and retired United Methodist bishops from across Africa to discuss the Church’s mission, leadership and ministry on the continent.
The gathering is being held under the theme, “Deepening Ecumenical Engagement, Expanding Continental Influence and Strengthening Institutional Sustainability.” Its biblical text is drawn from Isaiah 54:2: “Enlarge the space of your tent.”
The Liberia Episcopal Area welcomed Bishop Saenz, describing his participation as an important part of the gathering.
Organizers said the meeting will address key issues affecting The United Methodist Church in Africa and explore ways to strengthen institutional sustainability, unity, leadership and collaboration across the continent.
Bishop Saenz’s participation is also expected to foster deeper engagement between African church leaders and the global United Methodist community.
