Unity Party Expands Youth Drive | News

The ruling Unity Party is intensifying efforts to strengthen its political structures and secure long-term influence through heavy investment in youth leadership development, according to National Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh.

Speaking at the launch of a joint two-year strategic plan of the Unity Party National Cadets (UPNC) and the Tertiary Education Students’ Confederation (TESCON) in Monrovia, Rev. Tarpeh said the party is deliberately positioning itself for what he described as generational governance that could extend far beyond the current political era.

He stated that ongoing reforms and internal restructuring under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai are laying the foundation for sustained electoral strength and organizational continuity.

“President Boakai is building the Unity Party beyond his tenure because he wants to see the party become stronger, more enduring, and govern longer than the True Whig Party,” Tarpeh told supporters.

He further expressed confidence that, if the party’s youth development strategy continues to expand nationwide, the Unity Party could remain politically influential for more than two centuries.

The event highlighted what party officials described as a deliberate shift toward youth-driven political consolidation, with student-based organizations playing a central role in recruitment and leadership preparation.

Unity Party National Secretary Amos Tweh urged members of UPNC and TESCON to demonstrate loyalty, discipline, and sacrifice, noting that many current government officials rose through the party ranks after years of commitment.

According to Tweh, the party’s internal structure rewards dedication and provides clear pathways for young members to transition into national leadership roles.

“Once you work hard for the party, the opportunity to assume leadership responsibilities becomes easier,” he said.

Also speaking, UPNC and TESCON National Chairman Lansanah Fofanah outlined plans to significantly expand student membership across Liberia’s high schools and tertiary institutions, with a target of about 85,000 recruits nationwide.

He said the goal is to position young people as the backbone of the party’s future electoral strength, while also promoting political awareness and civic engagement among students.

Held under the theme “Three Years of Preparing to Take Over with Selfless Sacrifice and Commitment to the Unity Party,” the program brought together members of the party’s National Executive Committee as well as students from universities and secondary schools across Liberia.

Political observers say the initiative reflects a broader strategy by the Unity Party to deepen institutional longevity by strengthening internal structures, grooming future leaders, and consolidating grassroots support ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
