GREATER NOIDA, INDIA – In a major step to advance academic collaboration, the University of Liberia (UL) and Sharda University on Monday, June 30, 2025, signed a partnership agreement for a joint book publication titled Bridging Continents: India-Liberia Governance and Partnership Development. The agreement was formalized between the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Liberia, and the Sharda School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The signing ceremony took place on the 8th Floor of the Sharda School of Humanities and Social Sciences in Knowledge Park III, Greater Noida, India. The event was witnessed by faculty members of the University of Liberia who recently completed advanced degrees at Sharda University, symbolizing the growing educational bond between the two institutions.
The collaborative book project involves six professors, authors, and researchers from both universities. Representing UL are Prof. Dr. Josephus Gbala-hinnih Moses Gray, Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College; Assistant Prof. Richmond S. Anderson, Chair of the Department of Political Science; and Assistant Prof. Dr. Ambrues Nebo. Their counterparts at Sharda University include Prof. Dr. Anviti Gupta, Dean of the Sharda School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Assistant Prof. Dr. Rukmani Joshi; and Assistant Prof. Dr. Arvind Shukla.
Dr. Gray and Dr. Gupta signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing joint research, faculty exchange, and academic publishing. The partnership is expected to enrich the scholarly work of both universities while fostering a deeper understanding of India-Liberia relations through governance and development studies.
In his remarks, Dr. Gray conveyed greetings from UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan to Dr. Ashok Daryani and the faculty of Sharda University. He praised Dr. Gupta and her colleagues for their commitment to sustaining the collaboration and thanked Sharda University for its continued support to UL faculty and students. Dr. Gray also highlighted his experience as a visiting professor and adjunct faculty in Sharda’s Department of Political Science and expressed appreciation for similar opportunities being extended to other UL scholars.
Speaking on the book project, Dr. Gray emphasized that the publication will expand academic dialogue between India and Liberia and offer meaningful insights into governance, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
Dr. Gupta, in her remarks, commended the Liberian Ministry of Education, UL’s administration, and the broader academic leadership for building a unique relationship with Sharda University. She welcomed the book initiative as a timely academic endeavor that strengthens the strategic partnership between the two universities.
Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2022, UL and Sharda University have developed a robust exchange framework. Seven UL faculty and staff have earned advanced degrees from Sharda, and approximately 140 Liberian students are currently enrolled. So far, more than 60 Liberians have graduated from the institution, which boasts one of the highest numbers of international students among Indian universities, drawing scholars from 97 countries worldwide.
The signing of this agreement and launch of the joint publication further signal the deepening of academic ties between India and Liberia, with both universities positioning themselves as regional leaders in global knowledge exchange and cooperation.
