Rural healthcare in Grand Kru County has received a major boost, as VANCO, a Liberian-based social enterprise, donated over US$10,000 in medical supplies and equipment to local health facilities, a move hailed as a transformative step for community health services in the southeastern county.
The donation, handed over during a ceremony at the Grand Kru Health District Office on March 15, 2026, includes essential medical equipment such as stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, surgical kits, and a variety of drugs and consumables aimed at improving both preventive and emergency care.
Speaking at the event, VANCO’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Amin Modad, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting underserved communities.
“Our goal is to ensure that even the most remote communities in Liberia have access to essential healthcare services. This donation is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of local clinics and support healthcare workers on the frontlines,” Modad said.
Health officials and community leaders welcomed the contribution, highlighting its potential to fill critical gaps in service delivery, especially in rural areas where medical resources are scarce.
“This support from VANCO is timely and crucial. Many of our clinics struggle daily with insufficient equipment and medicine. Today’s donation will not only improve service delivery but also save lives,” said Dr. Helena T. Saah, Superintendent of the Grand Kru Health District.
Local nurses and doctors attending the ceremony expressed gratitude, noting that the equipment would directly impact patient care.
“We often face situations where basic diagnostic tools are missing. With this donation, we can now better monitor patients, respond to emergencies, and reduce preventable deaths,” said Nurse Josephine Wiah, a senior staff member at the county’s main clinic.
Community leaders also hailed VANCO’s initiative, describing it as an exemplary model of private-sector support complementing government efforts.
“The people of Grand Kru are grateful for VANCO’s generosity. Investments like this show how partnerships between private entities and local communities can directly improve lives,” said Paramount Chief Thomas Z. Boakai.
The event concluded with a pledge from VANCO to continue supporting rural healthcare initiatives across the county, including training for healthcare workers and the provision of additional medical kits to outlying clinics.
“This is just the beginning. We are committed to ongoing engagement with communities to ensure that healthcare delivery in rural Liberia is not compromised by lack of resources,” Modad added.
