PARTNERS AND THREAD IN THE FABRIC OF SOCIETY
Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has spoken positively of the role and relevance of the media in any democratic environment, describing it as thread in the fabric of the society.
Speaking through a proxy at the induction ceremony of the Publishers Association of Liberia, PAL Vice President Koung recognized the strength of the media or usefulness publishing as a vital thread in the fabric of any society, shaping narratives, fostering dialogue, and cultivating understanding.
“I stand before you today with immense pride and gratitude as we gather for the induction ceremony of the Publishers Association of Liberia,” he said.
He said he couldn’t be present at the auspicious occasion due to his engagement with AD-HOC set up recently by President Joseph Boakai to address rising prices of goods in the commerce of the country.
The Liberian Vice President however expressed profound appreciation of the induction ceremony of PAL, saying that it “marks a significant milestone not only for individual organizations of publishers but also for the literary and cultural landscape of our beloved nation.”
Addressing himself to the core of the occasion that had to do with putting newly elected officials of the PAL into office, VP Koung reminded the gathering of meida executives and journalists to “remember the power of the written word and its ability to illuminate truths, inspire change, and connect communities.”
He said, “Today, we induct new members into the association who bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a shared commitment to nurturing the literary arts in Liberia.”
“Together, we can advocate for the rights of authors, enhance the quality of publications, and ensure that voices are heard both locally and internationally,” he further revealed.
Going forward, he rallied the media to also embrace the challenges that lie ahead. As the publishing landscape is evolving rapidly, with technology shifting how we produce and consume literature, VP Koung urged the new PAL Leadership to seize the responsibility presented them to adapt, to learn, and to thrive in this new environment.
“By collaborating and supporting one another, you can elevate your industry and help other authors and readers to flourish,” he said through his proxy.
The new PAL Leadership is also admonished to carry the torch of leadership, creativity, and dedication.
“Let us work hand in hand to uplift the publishing community in Liberia and contribute to a brighter future for all,” he rallied.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the media, and encouraged journalists not to relent, knowing that the media is powerful.
VP koung reiterated government’s commitment to working with media for the advancement and “sustainability of this industry.”
“You are partners and shall remain partners of progress to the government,” he stated. He said the government looks forward to seeing the Liberian media grow much bigger than it is now. He added “We are confident that this dream will be realized under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST agenda for inclusive development.”
