Waec Liberia Releases 2025 National Exam Results, Announces Curriculum Expansion For 2026

MONROVIA – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Liberia National Office, has released the provisional results for the 2025 national examinations, marking what education stakeholders describe as another milestone in the country’s academic journey.

At a press conference held in Congo Town, Head of National Office, Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe, announced the release of results for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination (LJHSCE), the Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE), and the Liberia National Assessment Test (LNAT).

Gbotoe reported encouraging improvements in the LJHSCE, LPSCE, and LNAT results, noting that outcomes have steadily progressed since the introduction of national exams in 2018. For the 2025 WASSCE, 51,719 candidates sat exams across 379 centers nationwide. Out of this number, 822 candidates passed at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, with credit, while 28,576 passed at least five subjects with any grade. A total of 37,081 candidates passed at least four subjects including English and Mathematics, and 42,970 passed at least three subjects.

However, WAEC withheld results for 1,944 candidates due to suspected examination malpractice. Gbotoe explained that the cases are under investigation by the relevant committee.

Looking to the future, WAEC announced a major curriculum expansion beginning in 2026. In partnership with the Ministry of Education, 39 new subjects will be introduced, and candidates will have the opportunity to select nine subjects from the expanded list, offering greater academic flexibility and career alignment. Gbotoe further disclosed that certificates for the 2023 examinations have been printed and will be available for collection beginning in December 2025, while early registration for the 2026 exams will open in September and run through December this year.

Deputy Minister for Instructions, Hon. Amos Fully, commended WAEC-Liberia for the efficient conduct of the 2025 examinations and praised the Government of Liberia under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for its continued support in strengthening the education system. “We applaud WAEC-Liberia’s dedication to maintaining high standards in education,” Minister Fully said, urging schools to take advantage of the early registration window to ensure adequate preparation for 2026.

The release of the results has been welcomed as a positive step toward improving educational standards, while the planned curriculum expansion is expected to open new academic opportunities for Liberian students in the years ahead.
