Weah Establishes Committee To Build New Cdc Headquarters After Demolition

By Socrates Smythe Saywon

MONROVIA – Former President George Manneh Weah, Standard Bearer of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has announced the establishment of the CDC National Headquarters Construction Committee, following the eviction and demolition of the party’s headquarters by the Government of Liberia on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

The announcement was made on Monday, August 25, 2025, as Weah moved to restore what he described as a symbol of the CDC’s resilience and political strength. The committee, headed by House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa as Chairman and former Minister of State Nathaniel F. McGill as Co-Chairman, has been tasked with spearheading the construction of a new party headquarters within one year. Hon. Eugene Lenn Nagbe, a longtime Weah confidant, will serve as General Coordinator.

Other members of the committee include Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Madam Yvette Freeman, Mr. Quiwu Pepci Yeke, Mr. John Youbuty as Treasurer, Dr. Marie Scott-Wilson, Mr. Kyne Oliver Kyne, Madam Ruth Cooker Collins as Technical Advisor, Mr. Yayah T. Sheriff, Madam Famatta Wesseh as Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel T. Swen, Cllr. Garrison Yealu, Jurah A. M. Sanoe, Mr. Roosevelt Johnson Jr., Mr. Michael Andrew Massaquoi, Madam Mamina Carr Gaye representing the Youth League, Madam Sriyah Musu Isodjee of the Women’s League, Mr. Isaac Doe, Mr. Samuel A. Wlue, Mr. Manneh George, Madam Ariminty Tubman, and Mr. Abraham Askie.

According to the CDC, the committee has been instructed to create sub-committees where necessary, coordinate fundraising activities, and ensure transparency by opening a designated bank account for public contributions. The party said multiple payment methods would be made available to supporters and sympathizers both at home and abroad.

Speaking on behalf of the Standard Bearer, Eugene Nagbe said that once former President Weah returns from abroad, the CDC will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility. “Within a year, the new CDC headquarters will be completed,” Nagbe assured.

Nagbe also condemned the government’s action, describing the eviction and demolition as politically motivated. He disclosed that he had appealed directly to Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman for a delay until Wednesday, but his request was rejected. “During the pronouncement of the eviction, I personally called Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman and appealed for an extension up to Wednesday. However, the Police Director refused and insisted that they needed to proceed with the eviction,” he stated.

Nagbe added that the CDC intends to pursue legal action against the government and the Liberia National Police (LNP). “We will also sue the government and the LNP for the illegal eviction,” he said.

Meanwhile, Weah has mandated CDC National Chairman Janga Augustus Kowo to convene a press conference to address what the party calls “the disastrous invasion” of its headquarters, the alleged abduction of partisans, and pending legal challenges before the Liberian courts.

The demolition of the CDC headquarters has drawn widespread reactions across Liberia, with many viewing it as a flashpoint in the country’s tense political environment.
