Monrovia — As Liberia prepares to mark its 178th Independence Day, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., is set to welcome several high-profile regional and international guests to Monrovia for the celebrations.
According to the Executive Mansion, the July 26 events will bring together sitting heads of state, former regional leaders, and other dignitaries to commemorate Liberia’s milestone and reaffirm their shared commitment to peace, development, and regional cooperation.
Among the confirmed guests are H.E. Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló, President of Guinea-Bissau; H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone; and H.E. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of Senegal. Also expected are prominent former officials, including Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, former ECOWAS Commission President and African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns; Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, former ECOWAS Executive Secretary and former Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament; H.E. Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, former ECOWAS Commission President and Governor of the Central Bank of West African States; and H.E. Lansana Kouyate, former Prime Minister of Guinea and former ECOWAS Executive Secretary.
The presence of these leaders is especially notable, as two of them were among the five African heads of state invited to the U.S.-Africa summit at the White House earlier this month, sparking speculation that Liberia’s celebration could serve as a reunion of sorts for the leaders.
In a statement, President Boakai extended a warm welcome to the honored guests, describing their attendance as “a powerful testament to Liberia’s enduring diplomatic ties and shared aspirations within the sub-region and the continent.”
The 178th Independence Day celebrations will include the official Independence Day ceremony, cultural exhibitions, and bilateral meetings between Liberia and visiting delegations.
