The outgoing President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, is visiting Liberia from July 21 to 23, during which he will formally launch a transformative youth development initiative and receive national recognition for his leadership in Africa’s development landscape.
Dr. Adesina, who has served as the AfDB’s president since his election on May 28, 2015, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is widely respected for his expertise in development economics and agriculture. With his tenure set to conclude in September, this visit carries added significance as it highlights his legacy and long-standing commitment to Liberia and the broader African continent.
The visit underscores the strategic partnership between Liberia and the AfDB, reaffirming shared goals of sustainable development and economic transformation, particularly through youth innovation and empowerment.
During his visit, Dr. Adesina with hold meetings with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr and senior cabinet officials.
Adesina and Boakai are expected to discuss Liberia’s development priorities, ongoing AfDB-supported initiatives, and the country’s economic future.
As part of these official engagements, the Government of Liberia will confer national honors on Dr. Adesina in recognition of his decade of impactful leadership at the AfDB and his strong support for Liberia’s development agenda.
One of the key highlights of the visit will be the formal launch of the Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank (YEIB) and the accompanying Innovation Bureau, both of which will be unveiled during a special ceremony at the Ministerial Complex. As chief launcher, Dr. Adesina will inaugurate this flagship initiative aimed at empowering young Liberians by expanding access to sustainable financing, entrepreneurial training, and innovation resources.
Dr. Adesina is expected to depart Liberia on the morning of Wednesday, July 23, capping off a visit that not only reinforces AfDB’s commitment to Liberia but also reflects national appreciation for his vision, dedication, and transformative impact on development across the African continent.
