The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has commenced a comprehensive technical review of the Liberia Revenue Code, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the nation’s tax framework and ensuring it remains responsive to Liberia’s evolving economic, business, and administrative realities.
The five-day technical working session, held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, is led by the LRA’s Policy, Statistics and Strategic Planning Division (PSSPD). The workshop brings together technical experts from across the Authority to carefully examine existing legal provisions, evaluate administrative bottlenecks, and identify key areas requiring modernization and statutory amendment.
Through this exercise, the LRA aims to reinforce the legal foundation of domestic revenue mobilization while fostering greater efficiency, transparency, and predictability within the tax system. Experts are analyzing current provisions of the Code to ensure they adequately reflect modern economic activities and better serve the needs of taxpayers, businesses, and government institutions alike.
Following the internal review, the proposed amendments will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for further technical refining and broad stakeholder consultations. These upcoming engagements will allow business communities, civil society, and partner institutions to contribute to the final reform package before it is forwarded to the National Legislature for consideration and passage into law.
This initiative highlights the LRA’s ongoing efforts to build a resilient, forward-looking revenue system capable of supporting Liberia’s national development priorities. By continually updating the Revenue Code, the Authority is positioning the country’s fiscal policy to foster economic growth, improve public financial management, and boost domestic resource mobilization for sustainable public services.
