MONROVIA — Football fever is expected to grip homes, video clubs and entertainment centers across Liberia this weekend as Matchday 4 of the English Premier League delivers a packed schedule, highlighted by the season’s first Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City.
The weekend action begins Saturday, Sept. 12, with Liverpool facing Fulham at 2 p.m. GMT, the same time Crystal Palace battle Ipswich, Bournemouth host Brentford, Aston Villa face Nottingham and Chelsea take on promoted Hull City.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is demanding maximum intensity from his players as they look to set the tempo early.
“It is good news when they are exhausted because then we have taken everything from you and someone else will come in,” Iraola said.
Tottenham and Everton meet at 4:30 p.m. in another potentially tight contest before Arsenal travel to Sunderland for Saturday’s late fixture at 7 p.m.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has stressed the importance of developing the right mentality within his squad.
“You can’t find the right mentality in the transfer market,” De Zerbi said.
Sunday’s action begins at 1 p.m. when Coventry face Brighton, but attention will quickly shift to Old Trafford, where Manchester United host cross-city rivals Manchester City at 3:30 p.m.
United manager Michael Carrick has embraced the pressure surrounding the derby and called on supporters to create an intimidating atmosphere.
“The big games are what we all live for. It’s why we are here. We will go for it head on,” Carrick said.
With both Manchester clubs seeking bragging rights and valuable early-season points, the derby is expected to provide the biggest attraction for Liberian Premier League supporters this weekend.
Matchday 4 concludes Monday, Sept. 14, when Leeds host Newcastle at 7 p.m.
