Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has pledged that the Liberian government will continue pursuing between US$25 million and US$30 million to complete the remaining 15.4 kilometers of a major water transmission pipeline intended to improve water supply to Monrovia, Paynesville and surrounding communities.
Ngafuan made the disclosure Tuesday during a press conference at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning in Congo Town.
He said the government is committed to completing the water transmission pipeline project to ensure residents have access to potable water. He noted that the project is a priority for the government and is coordinating with partners to secure the needed funding.
The transmission pipeline project seeks to expand and strengthen the existing water infrastructure, addressing long-standing shortages and improving service delivery to urban and peri-urban areas.
Officials have said that once completed, the pipeline will boost water supply reliability and support public health and economic activities in the capital and nearby communities.
No timetable was provided for the completion of the remaining 15.4 kilometers, but Ngafuan emphasized ongoing efforts to mobilize resources and engage with international partners on financing arrangements.
