By Stephen G. Fellajuah

MONROVIA, Liberia, July 9, 2026 — The Chinese Embassy near Monrovia has donated medical supplies to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center to help ease shortages of essential medicines and support service delivery at the hospital.

The donation was presented during a ceremony on July 7 attended by Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu, JFK Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Dr. Linda Birch, Assistant Minister of Health and Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. G. Gorbee Logan, members of the 18th Chinese Medical Team and other guests.

Ambassador Yin said the consignment includes medicines and equipment for the prevention and treatment of common and infectious diseases, along with other clinical supplies.

He said the supplies are expected to replenish JFK’s medical stock, ease shortages of critical drugs and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to treat patients.

Yin said health cooperation has been a major part of China-Liberia relations since 1984 through the Chinese Medical Team Program.

He said Chinese medical teams have provided clinical care, training and epidemic prevention support in Liberia over the years.

Yin also cited recent health-sector cooperation, including a China-Liberia seminar on public health and health standardization that brought 38 Liberian healthcare workers to China for training.

He said China and Liberia have cooperated during major public health crises, including the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks.

The ambassador said China remains committed to strengthening health cooperation with Liberia.

Dr. Birch and Dr. Logan thanked the Chinese Government for its support to Liberia’s health sector and said they looked forward to continued cooperation.
