The Government of Liberia is set to dedicate the newly completed 81-kilometer Gbarnga–Salayea road corridor and break ground for two major road expansion projects in Lofa County as part of ongoing efforts to enhance national infrastructure and connectivity.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, accompanied by senior government officials and development partners from the Arab Coordination Group, will lead the official ceremonies on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, according to a press release from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. The combined dedication and groundbreaking events are scheduled to take place at the Bong–Lofa County border, near the rest station by the river bridge.
In addition to celebrating the completed Gbarnga–Salayea corridor, President Boakai will formally break ground for the 50-kilometer Salayea–Konia road segment and the six-kilometer Zorzor–Yeala connection.
The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning revealed that the government, under the leadership of Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, successfully mobilized $72.8 million from the OPEC Fund, BADEA, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to finance the paving and upgrading of the 56-kilometer road network encompassing the Salayea–Konia and Zorzor–Yeala stretches.
Furthermore, funding for the remaining 64-kilometer Konia–Voinjama road segment is expected to be finalized with the Saudi Fund for Development. This comprehensive paving initiative is designed to dramatically improve transit times, regional trade, and economic integration throughout Lofa County.
Construction work on the newly financed corridors is slated to commence during the upcoming dry season. Government officials project that these infrastructure developments will generate hundreds of short- and long-term local jobs while stimulating commercial activity in surrounding roadside communities.
Alongside the road developments, the Ministry announced major progress in the energy and healthcare sectors. Liberia has secured $49.6 million from the Saudi Fund for Development to execute the Botota–Gbarnga–Zorzor Transmission Line and Substation Project, an initiative aimed at expanding electrical grid access and driving economic growth across central and northern Liberia. Additionally, $700,000 has been mobilized from BADEA to renovate, rehabilitate, and fully equip the Salayea Clinic and Konia Health Center.
The Ministry emphasized that these targeted investments underscore the administration’s resolve to fulfill President Boakai’s ARREST Agenda through modernized infrastructure, expanded basic services, job creation, and inclusive, sustainable growth for the residents of Lofa County and the nation as a whole.
