SUAKOKO, Bong County — Several people are feared dead, while others sustained critical injuries following a devastating head-on collision involving two commercial taxis in Suakoko, Bong County.
According to eyewitness accounts gathered at the scene, the crash occurred when a yellow commercial taxi traveling from Gbarnga to Monrovia reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a silver commercial taxi traveling from Monrovia toward Gbarnga or Ganta.
The impact of the collision left both vehicles extensively damaged and beyond repair.
Bystanders at the scene claimed that the reckless overtaking maneuver by the driver of the yellow taxi was the apparent cause of the accident. However, authorities have yet to officially determine the cause of the crash.
Witnesses also reported that several occupants of the two vehicles were believed to have died instantly, although the exact number of fatalities and injuries has not been officially confirmed.
All of the victims were transported to Phebe Hospital for medical treatment and identification. Hospital authorities are expected to provide an official update on the number of deaths and the condition of the injured.
