Monrovia, May 27, 2026 — The Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Titan Group of Companies for the development of a 200MW solar power plant and a 100MWh battery storage project in Grand Cape Mount County.
This initiative aims to strengthen sustainable electricity access across Liberia and reinforce the country’s renewable energy agenda.
Liberia has faced persistent challenges in its energy sector, including limited electricity access, high tariffs, and heavy reliance on costly thermal generation and imported power.
Access to reliable electricity remains low, especially in rural communities, where residents often depend on generators, charcoal, and other alternative sources.
Despite these obstacles, the Government—through LEC—has pursued reforms and investments to expand electricity generation and improve national distribution capacity.
In recent years, efforts to promote renewable energy projects, particularly solar and hydropower, have intensified as part of a broader strategy for a sustainable and affordable electricity supply.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s weekly press briefing on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah emphasized that the agreement with Titan Group is part of Liberia’s energy diversification agenda. This initiative is intended to reduce dependence on imported fuel and costly thermal plants.
Minister Piah highlighted the government’s commitment to improving national energy supply and reducing reliance on imported electricity and expensive thermal generation.
He further noted that the agreement will accelerate sustainable electricity access throughout Liberia, diversify the energy sector, advance sustainable power solutions, and support national development.
