Maryland’s New Supt. Outlines Development Priorities | News

Maryland County’s newly appointed Superintendent, Nathaniel S. Toe Jr., has outlined key development priorities for the southeastern county following a grand public reception that drew hundreds of residents, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders along the Kaluway–Harper highway on Thursday.

The jubilant homecoming, marked by singing, dancing, motorcades, and cultural performances, saw residents from across towns and villages lining the highway to welcome the new superintendent, shortly after his official appointment by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr.

The colorful ceremony effectively brought parts of the county to a standstill as supporters expressed optimism that the new leadership would usher in improved governance, infrastructure development, and stronger community engagement.

Speaking to residents after arriving in Harper, Superintendent Toe Jr. expressed appreciation for the overwhelming reception and pledged to prioritize inclusive development and service delivery across all districts of Maryland County.

He emphasized that his administration would focus on strengthening local governance structures, improving basic social services, and fostering unity among residents as a foundation for development.

“I am deeply humbled by this reception,” he said, thanking citizens for the warm welcome and reaffirming his commitment to serve all residents regardless of political or community affiliation.

Superintendent Toe Jr. indicated that his leadership would prioritize collaboration with local authorities, traditional leaders, youth groups, and women’s organizations to ensure that development planning reflects the needs of communities at the grassroots level.

He further stressed the importance of peace and stability as a prerequisite for sustainable development, urging residents to remain united in supporting county-wide progress initiatives.

The new superintendent is expected to soon begin formal engagements with district commissioners, county officials, and development partners to assess ongoing projects and identify priority areas requiring urgent intervention.

Residents who participated in the reception described the appointment as a “new beginning” for Maryland County, expressing hope that the new administration would address long-standing challenges including road infrastructure, youth unemployment, and access to basic services.

The appointment of Superintendent Toe Jr. comes at a time when the government is emphasizing decentralization and improved service delivery at the county level under its broader governance and development agenda.

As he assumes leadership of one of Liberia’s key southeastern counties, expectations remain high that his administration will translate the enthusiastic public welcome into tangible development outcomes across Maryland County.
