Former Chief of Staff to ex-President George Weah and senior Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) official Leen Eugene Nagbe has alleged that officials from the Ministry of Public Works ordered a halt to the construction of the party’s headquarters, citing concerns over the building’s height.
Nagbe made the claim in a public statement on OK FM yesterday, saying officials from the ministry visited the construction site and informed those overseeing the project that the structure was too tall.
According to Nagbe, the officials instructed that construction work be suspended pending further action by the Ministry of Public Works. “Officials from the Ministry of Public Works visited the construction site of our headquarters and said the building is too tall, ordering us to stop work. I tried reaching the Minister of Public Works, but I haven’t been able to get in touch with him,” Nagbe stated.
The CDC official did not provide further details regarding the specific regulations or building standards that the ministry allegedly cited in issuing the stop-work order.
As of publication, the Ministry of Public Works has not publicly responded to Nagbe’s claims or confirmed whether an official stop-work order was issued against the project.
This latest revelation comes as construction continues on the CDC’s new headquarters, with the party yet to indicate its next course of action pending clarification from the ministry.
Nagbe’s account reflects his version of events. The Ministry of Public Works has not publicly commented on the matter, and the reasons for the reported construction halt have not been independently verified.
Appearing on the OK FM morning show to speak to Samuel Tweah’s Jury tampering probe, Nagbe stated, “What is happening is an attempt to use extrajudicial means to bring him back before a kangaroo body.”
He added, “This is a political fight against one of our very senior founding members. It’s an attack not on Samuel Tweah alone, but an attack on the CDC. If they slap us once, we have to slap them twice.”
