MONROVIA – The United States Embassy in Monrovia has renewed its commitment to strengthening Liberia’s justice sector as both countries deepen cooperation to combat transnational crime, illicit trafficking, and financial crimes threatening public safety and national security.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the U.S. Embassy disclosed that Chargé d’Affaires Joe Zadrozny held discussions with Liberia’s Minister of Justice Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh on ongoing efforts to reinforce the rule of law and improve law enforcement capacity.
According to the Embassy, the meeting focused on expanding collaboration between the United States and Liberia to ensure criminal networks are held accountable and that communities are protected from organized illegal activities.
“The Chargé reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to support Liberia’s justice sector as it works to hold criminal networks accountable and protect Liberian communities from illicit trafficking and financial crimes,” the Embassy stated.
The engagement comes amid growing international attention on Liberia’s efforts to strengthen its security institutions and address threats linked to drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, and other forms of organized crime.
Through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Washington has provided assistance to Liberia’s Ministry of Justice aimed at improving counternarcotics operations, reducing drug demand, combating trafficking in persons, and enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.
The U.S. support forms part of a broader partnership designed to improve Liberia’s justice system and strengthen institutional capacity in addressing crimes that often cross national borders.
The meeting between Chargé Zadrozny and Minister Tweh also highlights continued U.S. engagement with Liberia’s justice institutions following recent concerns over the growing sophistication of criminal networks operating in the region.
Liberia has faced increasing pressure to improve coordination among law enforcement agencies, strengthen prosecution mechanisms, and ensure that individuals involved in major criminal activities face legal consequences.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that its partnership with the Ministry of Justice remains central to advancing justice, security, and the rule of law.
