Liberia: Chairman of APRM Committee Calls for Crucial Meeting in Togo

This meeting comes at a critical time, as the region faces mounting political challenges that require collective and timely action.

The Chairman of the Community Parliament’s Committee on Political Affairs, Peace, Security, and the Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr., has called for a crucial meeting during the ongoing third Extraordinary Session in Lomé, Togo. The meeting aims to address political developments in member states across the sub-region.

Committee members include Hon. Salifou ISSA, Hon. Awaji-Inombek-Dagomie Abiante, Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu, Hon. Rosa Lopes Rocha, Hon. Abdoulaye Keita, Hon. Ireti Heebah Kingibe, and Hon. Abdoulaye Vilane.

According to Ghanamps.com, the Committee will meet delegations from four countries on Friday, September 27, 2024, to discuss key political issues. The countries include:

Ghana: The delegation will update the Committee on preparations for its December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections.

Senegal: The focus will be on the country’s political situation following the dissolution of its National Assembly.

Guinea-Bissau: The delegation will address the dissolution of its National Assembly.

Guinea: The meeting will provide an update on the roadmap for a return to constitutional rule and the ongoing ECOWAS Commission mission in the country.

The Committee will also address the withdrawal of the three Sahel member states—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—from ECOWAS and their formation of the Alliance des États du Sahel (AES) confederation, which is high on the agenda.
