AMOS SAWYER COLLEGE RECEIVES DONATION OF ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT WORTH $5,000 TO BOOST ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS

by Press Release

MONROVIA – On Friday, October 4, 2024, the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Liberia distributed essential equipment valued at Five Thousand United States Dollars (US$5,000) to all 16 academic departments, units, and the Dean’s Office. The items, which include 16 wireless Canon printers, a podium, a desktop computer, a mini icebox, and a 40-inch flat-screen smart television, are expected to enhance efficiency, productivity, and overall teaching and learning at the college.

This donation follows an appeal made by the Dean of the college, Associate Professor Dr. Josephus M. Gray, to the Director-General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), Hon. Dwelt vonBooms, for support in acquiring necessary equipment. NASSCORP responded by presenting a check of US$5,000, enabling the college to make these critical purchases.

During the presentation ceremony, which was attended by department heads, faculty, and staff, Dr. Gray expressed deep gratitude to NASSCORP, highlighting the corporation’s consistent support. “Upon receipt of the money, I had two choices: divide it among the departments or invest in essential equipment for the college. The best decision was to purchase equipment that would have a long-lasting impact on the operations of the college,” Dr. Gray stated.

The equipment will be distributed across several departments, including English and Language Studies, French Studies, Social Work, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology and Anthropology, Demography, Communication and Media Studies, Physical Education, ROTC, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Liberian Languages, and Fine and Performing Arts.

In addition, the desktop computer and 40-inch smart television were allocated to the Dean’s Office, while the podium and mini icebox were donated to the Thelma E. Duncan Sawyer Faculty Lounge in Fendall. The podium will serve various functions, including programs, conferences, thesis defenses, and speaking engagements.

The heads of the Departments of Physical Education, Political Science, and Demography, Mr. Fayiah Koijee, Assistant Prof. Richmond S. Anderson, and Prof. Alfred K. Tarway Twalla, respectively, also expressed their appreciation to NASSCORP for its continued support of the college’s academic mission.
