Pleebo, Maryland County, October 15, 2024: Family members in Pleebo City, Maryland County, are demanding a speedy investigation into a tragic accident that has killed one person instantly and left several other victims in critical condition.

The accident occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at about 4:30 PM, when a bike ran into a commercial taxi coming from Fishtown, River Gee County.

39-year-old Jallah Wesseh died instantly in the accident, and the others are currently admitted at the J.J. Dossen Hospital.

The victims admitted at the J.J. Dossen Referral Hospital in Harper City, Maryland County, included a bike rider and another person.

Eyewitnesses told the New Dawn newspaper that the late Jallah Wesseh was riding on an Apache motorbike from Pleebo to Fishtown. Witnesses said the deceased was speeding when his bike collided with a commercial taxi along the highway.

The eyewitnesses maintained that the deceased was an employee of the Cavalla Rubber Corporation (CRC) in Maryland County and hailed from River Gee County.

However, there was no information immediately surrounding his trip to his home before meeting his early demise.

Following the collision between the taxi and the bike, eyewitnesses further revealed that gasoline spillage and subsequent combustion caused harm to the individuals involved.

Meanwhile, the death of the deceased has drawn many citizens’ attention because it’s not the first or second accident involving CRC employees and the Maryland Oil Palm Plantation (MOPP) in recent times.

The death of the deceased has not only raised a serious concern about road safety measures by the Liberia National Police (LNP) but also questioned the Ministry of Public Works road maintenance.

Other parts of the roads are closing due to the lack of maintenance.

Friends of the deceased in the district have expressed shock over the tragedy, especially those who said they interacted with the deceased in the morning hours before his demise. They have called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
