Monrovia, January 7, 2025: Some allies appeared to abandon embattled House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa on Monday, January 6, 2025, to attend a legislative session conducted by the House majority bloc.
The lawmakers who switched sides to the majority bloc were Representatives Sumo K. Mulbah of Montserrado District #3, Rep. Priscilla Cooper of Montserrado District #5, Rep. Thomas Romeo Quioh of Sinoe County District #1, and Rep. Ellen Attoh Wreh of Margibi District #3.
During the political turmoil in which Speaker Koffa was dethroned, Rep. Ellen Attoh Wreh was a very strong ally to the embattled Speaker.
On several occasions, she called on members of the majority bloc to adhere to due process on the removal of Speaker Koffa.
In an interview with Spoon Network on October 29, 2024, she urged members of the majority bloc to act responsibly and within the bounds of law in handling the situation.
Another strong ally of Koffa, Sumo Mulbah earlier told journalists that he stood for the rule of law.
However, Mulbah has left Koffa in the water by joining the majority bloc.
Sumo told reporters that Koffa’s leadership stood for positive legislative developments.
According to him, Koffa has advocated for reforms to tackle corruption and improve governance.
Speaking to reporters after the session conducted by the majority bloc, Rep. Mulbah said his decision was made in consideration of prioritizing the work of the Liberian people at the House of Representatives.
He said the only thing that matters now is the work of the Liberian people.
