The ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy celebrated the graduation of 56 students from its third batch of intensive vocational training programs, marking an important milestone in their professional development.

The ceremony, held at the African Bible College University gymnasium, was a joyous occasion with graduates showcasing their achievements in disciplines such as diesel, electrical, fitting, boiler makers, and advanced training in fitting, turner, and instrumentation.

Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Education, Nyekeh Y. Forkpa, delivered an inspiring keynote speech, emphasizing the importance of vocational education and the need for graduates to stay abreast of technological advancements in their fields. Minister Forkpa encouraged the graduates to remain committed, adaptable, and innovative in their careers to meet the evolving demands of the workforce.

“Seek new innovations in your areas; learn a new system and tools, and upscale your career with the technology that comes so it (career) does not become obsolete,” he said.

Liberia needs the graduates more than they think, and they need to persevere for success in their careers journey to give the country the desired and expected outcomes.

“Remember to be committed to duties while working alone, knowing that what you think people are not seeing will face you during evaluation on the job,” he added.

He further called on the graduates to encourage their female counterparts to attend the AMLTA,  stressing that women should not only be reduced to the hospitality industry but can also take advantage of challenging vocational programs that their peers are also taking advantage of.

Upon narrating a personal story about his humble beginnings, Minister Forkpah, also advised the graduates to avoid pride and demonstrate humility in order to succeed.

AML’s CEO, Michiel Vandermerwe, commended the AML Training Academy for equipping young individuals with technical skills that align with the company’s operations. He highlighted the significance of investing in skilled resources to support future projects and job opportunities within the company.

“It is important to prepare people whose skills will be needed in the operation and one  such way is the training AMLTA is providing Liberians to prepare them for the future task,” he said.

Dr. Nancy T. Freeman from Booker T. Washington Institute acknowledged ArcelorMittal’s contributions to vocational training and socio-economic development in Liberia, praising the company for its commitment to empowering individuals through practical education.

AMLTA Manager, Dawie Loots, congratulated the graduates on their accomplishments and urged them to apply their acquired skills effectively in their professional endeavors. Mr. Loots emphasized the graduates’ responsibility in shaping their futures and making a positive impact in their respective career paths.
