Harper, Liberia, December 12, 2024 – A religious group, “ARISE MINISTRIES,” based in the United States of America, donated medical supplies worth Five Thousand United States Dollars (US$5,000) to the James Jenkins Dossen Memorial referral hospital in Harper, Maryland County.
The presentation on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, brought together Dr. Methodius George, former hospital administrator, Evangelist Albertine Tubman, current Director Dr. Bill Davis, staff, government officials, and patients.
Evangelist Albertine Tubman says she has been passionate about helping people, having pursued a career in the healthcare industry.
She explains that she is a Certified Nurse Assistant. In 2024, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and later a master’s in public health management.
Despite her level of education, she has always surrendered her career to the feet of Jesus Christ, describing herself as a “Nurse for Jesus.”
“So my mission here in Maryland county is an outreach mission, but I thought to have given back to my community as a person who has been in the medical field, knowing what it takes, sometimes hearing about people died from common diseases or sickness especially some of those diseases and sicknesses that can be managed in the United States, but my people back home are dying from such condition. It gets me worried and heartbroken”, she laments.
She underscores the need for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Infection Control Training for healthcare providers at the county health team level and people from across various departments of the county’s six health districts.
Evangelist Tubman reaffirms her commitment to supporting and facilitating such training and providing the necessary materials and equipment for said exercise.
She notes that CPR and infection training are very important in refreshing the minds of care providers and the community as a whole.
She reiterates that despite the donation, teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation to nurses or somebody from the community would save the lives of persons who might have dropped and fallen, adding that this little knowledge can help save anyone suffering from cardiac attack or arrest.
She further explains that the County Health Team and the JJ Dossen Hospital administrators have agreed to conduct the training soon after all materials needed for it are fully prepared.
Making remarks on behalf of the James Jenkins Dossen Memorial Hospital, Medical Director Dr. Bill Davis appreciates Mrs. Tubman and the ARISE MINISTRIES, describing the donation as timely, welcoming, and essential while promising that the sanitary pads and other materials will be used for the purpose intended.
Dr. Davis says it’s good for people to always remember their roots, adding that it has taken a very long time for an individual to provide such a huge donation, especially materials for bedridden patients.
For his part, Dr. Methodius George, former administrator of the hospital and former County Health Officer, commends the Chief Executive Officer of the ARISE MINISTRIES for the gesture made to the people of Maryland County and Liberia.
At the same time, he describes the gesture as meaningful and timely and is optimistic that the items will be used for their intended purpose.
In March 2022, Arise Ministries donated clothes for newborn babies, including blankets, hats, and socks, among other items, to JJ Dossen Hospital and Pleebo Health Center, respectively.
