The Diocesan Bishop of the Abosso Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus Christ, Incorporated, Samuel Fornatee Nugba has frowned at religious leaders for what he describes as the conspicuous silence amid fire incident on the Capitol Building, mob violence by citizens and other indicators that threaten national peace and stability in the country.
The renowned Liberian cleric, known for his vocal stand on critical national issues, made the statement during an exclusive interview with The Liberian Investigator at his church office on Bushrod Island.
He highlighted the fire incident on the designed top of the Capitol Building, the power struggle between two groups of members of the House of Representatives over calls for the removal of embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.
Bishop Nugba also pointed recent mob violence which led to the death of at least two citizens for allegedly stealing a motorcycle at 72nd Junction in the City of Paynesville, alleged killing of motorcyclists by individuals believed to be criminals of motorcycles in Monrovia, several national threats by some national leaders and increasing violent and criminal activities among others in the country.
“The sad part of this is, all of these things are happening in the country and we, the religious leaders keep quiet, watch lawlessness and potential threat to our security and fail to speak out,” he stressed.
The Liberian prelate emphasized the importance of the church waking up from the slumber to speak truth to power, ensuring that national leaders act in an orderly manner and making it paramount the protection of the peace and stability of the country.
He believes that the continued silence of religious leaders, including the National Religious Council and the Liberia Council of Churches has presented an indication to the public that there is a no national policy maker to break to check members of the House of Representatives to restore law and order, remind citizens of their constitutional rights and responsibilities and educate them about the consequences of their ‘unlawful’ actions.
Bishop Nugba further called on the National Religious Council and the Liberia Council Churches to swiftly correct what he termed as their actions of failing of the Liberian people to a robust engagement with the citizens and their national leader aimed at preventing the country from chaos.
“The Bible says two cannot work unless they agree. So, I call on my colleague religious leaders to do the needful because the society depends on us, our guidance and boldness to national policy decisions,” he emphasized
