The mysterious death of Anwar Futloo, the South African manager of Boulevard Palace Hotel, has unveiled what many are calling a potential political scandal of seismic proportions.
Futloo’s demise has been tied to explosive allegations involving Liberia’s top officials and an incriminating video allegedly captured in Room 1026 of the luxurious Boulevard Palace Hotel.
Futloo was found unresponsive on Monday evening at a residence on 9th Street, Sinkor, following what police believe was the ingestion of caustic soda, a highly corrosive chemical. Despite emergency medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.
Sources close to the deceased allege that Futloo had been under significant pressure from his employer, Sam Halabi, who allegedly instructed him to meet with an associate at the residence shortly before his death. This meeting has become the focal point of a police investigation, with a security guard at the location now detained for questioning.
The story took a darker turn with reports that Futloo was in possession of a leaked video containing evidence of high-level corruption among key government officials. Allegedly captured by CCTV in Room 1026, the footage reportedly shows Vice President Jeremiah Koung, Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, and Senator Prince Moye distributing large sums of U.S. dollars to lawmakers and senior ministers.
The video also allegedly documents discussions about manipulating budget allocations and instructing ministers to redirect portions of government funds back to Fallah. If authenticated, this footage could implicate the officials in serious ethical and legal violations, threatening to destabilize the Boakai-led administration.
Room 1026 at the Boulevard Palace Hotel has now become synonymous with controversy. The luxurious suite, typically reserved for high-profile guests, is allegedly the setting where the events in the leaked video unfolded.
Up to the publication of this story, hotel’s management has yet to comment on the alleged video.
In a Facebook post earlier today, the management of the Boulevard Palace Hotel issued the following statement:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved General Manager, Anwar Futloo. Anwar was not just a leader; he was the heart of Boulevard Palace, inspiring every member of our team with his unwavering dedication, compassion and vision.
“Over the years, Anwar’s leadership transformed our hotel into a symbol of excellence and a place where both guests and employees felt at home. His warmth, wisdom and tireless commitment will forever remain a part of our legacy.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for the overwhelming calls of support, care and concern during this difficult time. Your kindness reminds us of the many lives Anwar touched both within and beyond our organization.
“We humbly ask that you keep his wife and young son in your thoughts and prayers. The loss they and the Boulevard Palace Family bear is immeasurable and we all need your collective love and strength to navigate this painful journey.
“Boulevard Palace will remain steadfast in honoring Anwar’s legacy. We are committed to providing the same excellence and care that he championed.
“Once again, thank you for your support.”
The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed an active investigation into both Futloo’s death and the circumstances surrounding the alleged video. Authorities are yet to confirm the authenticity of the video or its contents, but they have vowed to follow every lead.
Meanwhile, civil society organizations and opposition leaders are demanding transparency. “This is not just about one man’s tragic death; it’s about the integrity of our nation,” said a spokesperson for the Liberia Anti-Corruption Network. “If these allegations are true, they expose a rot at the highest levels of government.”
As the police investigation continues, the implications of the “dark secrets of Room 1026” are far-reaching. If the allegations prove credible, they could unravel a web of corruption, tarnishing the reputations of some of Liberia’s most prominent political figures.
