Capitol Hill-The House of Representatives gutted on fire early Wednesday morning, eyewitnesses told New Republic . The building hosts members of the lower house of representatives.
“The fire started from up and came down and went to the Rotana. What I am seeing here does not tell me it was caused by any electrical fault,” Stephen Davies, said.
In recent times members of the house have been embroiled on confusion which led the removal of the speaker, Hon. J. Fonati Koffa. He challenged his removal by seeking redress from the Supreme Court. The court handed its opinion and called for the rule of law to be respected.
The Majority bloc which many accused governments of supporting has refused to uphold the court’s decision.
The fire came barley a day after protest by some group of Liberians under the banner Concerned Citizens for the protection of constitution, Democracy and Rule of Law.
The police made several arrest including an aid to former president, George Weah, Kalasco Damario.
When called fire service official, one said, “the fire started this morning. We do not know the cause of it. Unless we get an investigation team to go and conduct infestation on it,” one said.
