— Hon. Bailey Champions Voluntarism for Community Growth
Hon. Christopher Beh Bailey, former Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County, has underscored voluntarism as the cornerstone of community service in his inaugural address as the newly elected Chair of Thinker’s Village Block-D Community. Bailey, known for his developmental initiatives during the first term of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (2006-2012), emphasized unity, collective action, and selfless service as essential for community growth.
Bailey was elected alongside a dedicated team for a two-year term, including:
Hon. Christopher Beh Bailey – Chair
Dr. Juwe KerKula – Co-Chair
Amb. Fatoma Judson Boakai – Secretary-General
Pst. Ellen S. Jones – Treasurer
Madam Myer Johnson – Financial Secretary
In his speech, Bailey highlighted voluntarism as key to effective leadership, stressing that true service involves contributing without expecting personal gain. “The hallmark of such an organization is voluntarism—each individual serving for the betterment of the community without seeking financial rewards,” he noted.
Bailey acknowledged the challenges of community leadership but called for shared passion and mutual support among residents. He laid out strategic short- and long-term plans, including:
-
Sanitation Initiatives: Establishing a team to improve waste management and public health.
-
Infrastructure Improvements: Enhancing road conditions and installing street lighting to curb crime.
-
Recreational Center: Negotiating with landowners to create safe spaces for children and families.
Bailey urged residents to embrace active participation, stating, “Our success depends on collective actions. Let’s make Block D a model community to be envied and emulated.”
Montserrado County District #6 Representative, Hon. Samuel Enders, served as the induction officer and advised the new leaders to show resilience. “You’ll face challenges and temptations in this role without financial benefits, but I urge you to endure. True service demands sacrifice,” he said.
Reflecting on broader leadership challenges, Enders cited the ongoing impasse in the House of Representatives, emphasizing the need for integrity and community-first focus.
Hon. Bailey concluded with a pledge to engage local and international organizations to support community development initiatives, from aiding orphanages to empowering single mothers. “We will be relentless in pursuing partnerships that uplift our community,” he affirmed.
