Within the past week, several high-profile Liberians have been buried in religious houses in Liberia. These houses have national leaders who profess to follow the Rule of Law as found in the Constitution of Liberia. This means that these leaders are supposed to be promoting democracy instead of autocracy. But the show of military and other non-constitutional devices shows that these leaders are promoting autocracy instead of democracy.
Some people say that what was displayed is acceptable because it is part of Liberian culture. The display of women in traditional roles is part of Liberian culture but it is intended to keep men in a dominant position when the Rule of law calls for the equality of men and women. This is all part of the colonial way to keep the colonizer in control of the colonized. This is the system that promotes poverty generation in which poverty remains the most important societal problem in Liberia.
This problem remains worrisome because some people and institutions that support this State regime are worrying that the regime is becoming promotional of autocracy rather than democracy. This is so especially when the actions of one of the State leaders has been described as a threat to democracy. The frequent bye-passing of the Rule of Law by National Legislators is also leading some critics of the State regime to push the point of autocracy forward. The media in Liberia has also picked up the point that current State actions are leading to the promotion of autocracy rather than democracy (Front Page Af
Specific reference is made publicly to the impasse in the National Legislature over the Speaker’s removal. The Rule of Law calls for the replacing of the Speaker through the Due Process as stated in the Constitution of Liberia. However, Lawmakers who have become lawbreakers prefer to operate within the rule of outlaw These lawbreakers camp in a local hotel for months using taxpayers money not found in the national budget, not forgetting the immorality of sleeping outside of their matrimonial beds. How does one change this bad situation into a good situation through the Rule of Law?
Change comes through the raising of awareness by the people who promote Justice for All to motivate the people to take actions to transform the unfair prevailing electoral system into the fair enduring electoral system. It is only through this transformation that persons with good records can get elected to bring in the system of Justice, the indispensable ingredient for Peace and Progress in Liberia and in any other country.
