Monrovia, December 13, 2024: Liberia’s new Commerce Minister , Magdalene Dagoseh, has officially assumed leadership at the Ministry of Commerce, vowing to create new opportunities and stimulate economic growth.

Minister Dagoseh spoke on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the EJS Ministerial Complex, during a ceremony marking her official takeover.

The event was attended by representatives from the ruling Unity Party (UP), deputy and assistant ministers, staff, and well-wishers.

During her inaugural speech, Minister Dagoseh outlined her key priorities, focusing on price stability.

She vowed to ensure the affordability of essential goods and services and to tackle inflation through fair trade practices.

“I will encourage innovation and expansion in the industry to foster new opportunities and stimulate growth,” she affirmed.

The commerce minister further emphasized her commitment to strengthening trade relations, enhancing the nation’s port export potential, and positioning Liberia as a preferred destination for investment.

Addressing her colleagues and ministry staff, Minister Dagoseh said, “With sincerity and commitment, together we will build a system that is strong, dynamic, and responsive to the needs of the Liberian people.”

She expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for the opportunity to lead the ministry.

Minister Dagoseh highlighted the significant role the commerce sector plays in the nation’s economy, industry, and global trade.

Dagoseh laid out her vision for a transparent, inclusive, and sustainable commerce sector, underscoring the importance of collective dedication and unity in building a robust economy.

“This responsibility requires the collective dedication, sincerity, and togetherness of all of us,” she said.

She also thanked her predecessor, former Minister Amin Modad, for his leadership and efforts in laying the foundation for the ministry’s work.

Minister Dagoseh noted that his contributions were instrumental and pledged to build upon his successes.

She stressed the importance of unity in serving the Liberian people through the effective implementation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

She called for collaboration, respect for each other’s roles, and a cultivation of the strength that diversity brings in achieving shared goals.

“Success in the Ministry requires sincerity and unwavering commitment,” she urged the staff.

Minister Dagoseh further stressed the need for responsibility, transparency, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

She stressed the need to uphold accountability and excellence, which she identified as the cornerstones of progress for the ministry.

Dagoseh takes over from Amin Modad, who resigned in early October following a controversy surrounding the purchase of a luxury vehicle for official use, costing US$98,000.
