Acting commerce minister Scholarstica Nimley has announced plans to host a conference on small and medium business enterprises.
Monrovia, October 23, 2024/ At a stakeholder meeting on Monday, Madam Nimley said the sector is an important driver of the Liberian Economy and should not be forgotten.
The acting Commerce Minister further reiterated the need to strengthen SMEs, thus calling on public, private, and donor organizations to support the pending conference.
The conference on SMEs is a flagship undertaking by the Ministry of Commerce to promote and support Liberian businesses.
The conference slated for the first week in December is expected to be grace by President Joseph Boakai and stakeholders in the sector, including businesses in the informal sector.
The SMEs conference is an annual event organized by the Commerce Ministry. It has not been held since 2016 due to the lack of political will for the past six years.
The World Bank, UNDP, Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Liberia Business Association, and the Liberia Business Registry, among others, attended the stakeholders meeting.
The Acting Commerce Minister praised President Boakai for demonstrating the political will to promote and support SMEs, thereby giving the Commerce Ministry the green light to host the flagship conference.
