MONROVIA – The Vice President of Sinkor Riders (SR), a local cycling organization, has highlighted the immense health benefits of cycling, describing the sport as an effective way to improve cardiovascular function and promote physical fitness among people of all ages.

Speaking during activities marking the 2026 Olympic Day celebration at the Unification Park in Monrovia, Hnel Appleton said the organization’s primary objective is to encourage healthy lifestyles and improve the physical well-being of both men and women across the country.
According to Appleton, Sinkor Riders is comprised of enthusiastic men and women from diverse professional backgrounds who share a common commitment to fitness and longevity.
“Our main goal is to improve fitness and help people maintain good health through cycling,” Appleton said. “Cycling has become part of our daily activities because we believe that health is wealth, and we make it a priority to stay healthy and physically active.”
He described cycling as an inclusive sport that is accessible to everyone, regardless of age, profession, or social status.
“One of the unique things about cycling is that it is a sport for everyone,” he explained. “Regardless of your age, career, or background, you can participate in cycling. It helps keep people fit, improves cardiovascular function, and contributes significantly to a healthier lifestyle.”
Appleton noted that members of Sinkor Riders proudly joined the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) and other local sports federations to commemorate the 2026 Olympic Day celebration, which was held under the global theme, “Let’s Move.”
The Sinkor Riders Vice President disclosed that the organization currently boasts of 36 active members who regularly participate in strategic meetings, rigorous training sessions, and domestic cycling competitions.
Appleton revealed that the organization is now intensively preparing for its next major cycling event scheduled for early August 2026.
The upcoming endurance race will challenge participants to ride from Monrovia to Sanniquellie City in Nimba County.
He expressed strong optimism that the planned event will further popularize cycling in Liberia, while inspiring more youth and adults to adopt healthier lifestyles through structural sports and routine physical activity.
