House Ratified Salayea Road Agreement

Capitol Hill, July 17, 2026 — The House of Representatives ratified a loan agreement Thursday to finance the construction of the Salayea–Konia Road Project in Lofa County.

Lawmakers approved the measure during their regular session after reviewing a report from the Joint Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, and Judiciary. The report cited the project’s financial feasibility, legal compliance, and anticipated socio-economic benefits.

The committee reported that the concessional loan carries a one percent annual interest rate and a half-percent service charge.

The committee stated that the project is expected to improve road connectivity, strengthen cross-border trade, boost agricultural productivity, and stimulate economic growth in Lofa County.

The committee emphasized the need for environmental safeguards, fair compensation for project-affected persons, and guaranteed maintenance funding through the National Road Fund.
Meanwhile, the loan agreement has been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for further action.
