MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Dr. Josephus Gba-hinnih Moses Gray, the Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Liberia, recently returned to a warm welcome after serving as a visiting professor at Sharda University in Greater Noida, India. Dr. Gray, who also holds the position of Doyen of the Council of Deans at the University of Liberia, spent two months sharing his expertise at Sharda University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In recognition of his staff’s dedication and support during his absence, Dr. Gray organized a heartfelt appreciation ceremony last Friday. The event, held at the Thelma E. Duncan Sawyer Faculty Lounge on the university’s Fendall campus, highlighted the value of teamwork and collaboration within the institution. Gifts brought from India were distributed to staff members, a gesture Dr. Gray described as a token of his gratitude for their contributions to his successful tenure as Dean.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Gray emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of recognition and appreciation within academic institutions. “I am proud to have such a wonderful, dedicated, and committed team. You have made it possible for me to excel as Dean, and for that, I am deeply grateful,” Dr. Gray said during his remarks.

The ceremony was well attended and underscored Dr. Gray’s leadership style, which prioritizes collaboration and mutual respect. Attendees lauded the Dean’s efforts to acknowledge the hard work of his staff, noting that such initiatives set a positive precedent for the university.

Dr. Gray’s time at Sharda University was described as both rewarding and transformative. He participated in academic exchanges, engaged with students and faculty, and contributed to the global academic dialogue on humanities and social sciences. Reflecting on his experience abroad, Dr. Gray highlighted the significance of cross-cultural learning in enhancing academic perspectives.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have represented the University of Liberia at Sharda University. It was a privilege to engage with scholars from diverse backgrounds and to bring back knowledge that will benefit our institution,” he stated.

The event also symbolized a fresh chapter for the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Dr. Gray’s return and the accompanying celebration were seen as steps toward fostering a more inclusive and appreciative academic environment.

By acknowledging the contributions of his staff, Dr. Gray has set a tone for leadership that values not just individual achievement but also the collective efforts that make success possible. Faculty members at the event expressed admiration for the Dean’s humility and willingness to share credit for the institution’s accomplishments.

Dr. Gray’s return to Liberia marks a continuation of his efforts to strengthen academic standards and create a supportive environment for both faculty and students. The appreciation ceremony, though modest, resonated deeply with those in attendance and reinforced the values of gratitude and teamwork within the university community.
