MONROVIA – Since her appointment as President of the University of Liberia by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai a fortnight ago, Dr. Layli Maparyan has been pulling her weight around to attract funding to the nation’s highest tertiary institution.

Wasting no time, Dr. Maparyan recently convened a strategic meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Liberia Country Representative, Aliou Mamadou Dia, as well as senior representatives from UN Women Liberia.

The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to revitalizing the university and strengthening its capacity to deliver quality education to Liberians. The dialogue placed significant emphasis on education, underscoring its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4 and reaffirming its priority for all UN agencies involved.

The meeting also focused on possible ways that the UNDP can help support the repositioning effort of the UL, as well as look at other UN-led initiatives at the UL, for possible action.

According to University of Liberia sources, the meeting with the UNDP Liberia office will be followed by several other engagements with key government institutions, including the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), and the National Fisheries and Acqua- Culture Authority (NaFAA).

The meeting with the NaFAA team is centered on the turnover of the newly constructed fisheries department at the Fendall Campus of the University of Liberia.
