FINANCE MINISTER AUGUSTINE NGAFUAN DECLARES ASSETS WORTH $533,850 TO LACC

by smartnews

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, has declared his assets to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), reporting a net worth of $533,850 after accounting for liabilities. The declaration was submitted on October 13, 2024, in compliance with national transparency laws.

In his statement, Ngafuan underscored the accuracy and transparency of his asset disclosure. “I affirm that all information provided in this declaration is true, complete, and accurate to the best of my knowledge. I consent to the verification of this information by any relevant national or international institution. I also acknowledge that any false declaration could result in criminal charges, including perjury,” he stated.

Ngafuan’s compliance comes shortly after his confirmation as Minister of Finance and Development Planning on September 10, 2024. The Liberian Senate unanimously endorsed his appointment, with 26 senators voting in favor based on the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget. The committee praised Ngafuan’s expertise in fiscal and development management.

President Joseph Boakai appointed Ngafuan on August 30, 2024, to replace Boima Kamara, who resigned earlier this year. Ngafuan’s return to the ministry marks a continuation of his distinguished public service career, having previously held roles as Director of the Bureau of the Budget, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs during the Sirleaf-Boakai administration.

Ngafuan’s asset declaration coincides with the LACC’s launch of an Asset Declaration Verification Process on November 20, 2024, which targets 175 public officials from both the current and previous administrations. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting integrity and accountability in the public sector.

Ngafuan’s proactive stance on transparency has drawn public interest, given his significant experience in Liberia’s economic governance. By declaring his assets, he sets a strong example for other officials as the Boakai administration strives to rebuild public trust and strengthen accountability across government institutions.
