Fire Truck Finally Arrives in Nimba | News

— A week after fire ravaged several business centres in Ganta

The most talked about fire truck donated by businessman Tomah Seh Floyd has finally arrived in the Nimba, a week after fire ravaged several business houses in Ganta.

The fire truck, donated to the Liberia National Fire Service, was announced on July 16, 2024 to be for use only in Nimba, but the truck was said to have been on test in Monrovia by the Fire Service before certification for use.

In a brief ceremony upon arrival in Nimba on Thursday, October 3, Mr. Floyd turned the truck over to Supt. Kou Meapeh Gono, who then turned it over to the Liberia National Fire Service to be managed and operated in Nimba County.

Mr. Floyd expressed delight to receive the truck in Nimba and promised to provide all the needed support to enhance its smooth operation in responding to fire emergencies.

“We will not allow the truck to break down for battery problems, go out of fuel or face any condition that would hamper its function,” he said.

“My mechanics are here and will do any maintenance work, if requested by the fire service,” he said.

Fire Service Director General Warsuwah Borvour lauded Mr. Floyd for the truck and urged other well meaning citizens to follow suit.

He said the government has a plan to build fire service stations and equip them across the country and, given the numerous challenges, it is highly appreciative for a private citizen to make such a contribution.

He added, “If anyone could come up, too, and say I am going to build a fire service station in Ganta or anywhere, it would be a great help and the government will make sure to send equipment.”

However, Supt. Gono also commended Mr. Floyd for the good gesture, admonishing other citizens to emulate the same “by showing gratitude and compassion to where you originated from.”

“This is a relief for us,” she said. “It makes us proud as a country because this is a benevolent government.”

She told the LNFRS to use the truck with care and for its intended purpose and urged the Fire Service to think about Nimba whenever there is more provision.

On July 16, 2024, Mr. Tomah Seh Floyd donated two used dump trucks to both the city corporations of Ganta and Gbarnga as well as the fire truck for Nimba to climax his birthday celebration.

Upon arrival in Liberia, the fire truck was presented to the National Fire Service for inspection and certification which, of course, took some time because there were some components that were needed to make the truck more effective.

When asked whether the truck is now 100% ready for use, Fire Service Director Warsuwah said: “Nobody is 100%, but the truck is in good condition that can respond to any fire emergency.”
