Bomi County, Liberia, November 27, 2024 – Forestry Training Institute (FTI) in Tubmanburg, Bomi County breaks grounds to renovation dilapidated buildings within the institution.

Executive Director, Joel Gamys, says the move is a significant step toward improving educational facilities.

Mr. Gamys expresses gratitude to government for facilitating the project, which is the first civil work undertaken by the institution.

“This is a moment of transformation for FTI, and it is the result of teamwork among the institution’s administration. We aspire to make FTI a leading institution in the country,” Mr. Gamys notes.

He emphasizes that the renovation align with President Boakai’s ARREST AGENDA, underscoring their commitment to overcoming challenges rather than being overwhelmed by them.

He expresses optimistic about the institution’s trajectory, believing the improvements will yield substantial benefits for future students.

Support for the project stems from a five-year strategy that the FTI has developed in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service and USAID.

Gamys points out that ongoing support from the Liberian government is crucial for the institution to achieve its objectives.

In a notable achievement, he reveals that the Commission on Higher Education recently accredited the FTI, elevating its programs from diploma level Associate Degree.

He commended government for its unwavering support towards the institution.

Project Officer Ezekiel Dolo, details scope of the renovations, which include: residential buildings, cafeteria, health course facilities, and kitchen.

He says the project, initially constructed by the Mano River Union, suffered destruction during the country’s civil war.

“This is the first significant infrastructure development project undertaken by the government since it assumed office, aimed at revitalizing FTI and enhancing its facilities,” Dolo explains.

Meanwhile, the groundbreaking ceremony marks an important milestone for the Forestry Training Institute and reflects a broader commitment to rebuilding and improving educational infrastructure in Liberia. As the renovation progresses, the FTI community looks forward to the positive impact it will have on students’ learning experiences and future prospects. Editing by Jonathan Browne
