MONROVIA, July 24, 2026: French Ambassador to Liberia Isabelle Le Guellec has described relations between France and Liberia as having experienced exceptional growth over the past year, reaffirming her country’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s development and international governance reforms.
Speaking recently in Monrovia during celebrations marking France’s Bastille Day, Ambassador Le Guellec said bilateral cooperation reached a significant milestone with President Joseph N. Boakai’s official visit to France in October 2025.
She said the visit led to the signing of a general cooperation agreement by Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, and France’s minister responsible for Francophonie, international partnerships and French nationals abroad.
“We very much look forward to implementing this agreement in the seven areas of cooperation we have jointly identified,” she said.
Ambassador Le Guellec also highlighted President Boakai’s participation in the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya, in May 2026. The Liberian leader joined French President Emmanuel Macron and 35 other heads of state and government at the gathering.
“We were very honored and grateful for this level of friendship and trust between France and Liberia, and we look forward to continuing to nurture it,” she said.
The French envoy also praised Liberia’s growing role in international affairs, particularly its entry onto the United Nations Security Council in January 2026 for a two-year term.
She said France, one of the council’s five permanent members, supports reforms aimed at making the institution more inclusive, particularly by expanding African representation.
Ambassador Le Guellec reaffirmed France’s commitment to working with Liberia to defend international law and shared democratic values while promoting multilateralism, good governance, transparency and peaceful dialogue.
“France, like Liberia, believes in international law and multilateralism,” she said. “We are eager to support and work alongside Liberia on these reforms in an increasingly challenging world.”
