MONROVIA – The administration of Grand Kru Technical College (GKTC) has expressed deep gratitude to the Board of Trustees for their sustained support in enhancing quality teaching and learning at the institution. The college applauded the Board’s trust in its leadership, which has enabled significant academic advancements and introduced a robust academic system aimed at modernizing the college and bringing it in line with other institutions in Liberia.
Acting President of the College, Associate Professor Dr. Josephus Gray, remarked that whoever is appointed as the second president of GKTC by President Joseph N. Boakai will inherit an institution that has made considerable academic strides and fostered a peaceful environment conducive to quality education.
Dr. Gray further disclosed that the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley, has awarded 10 scholarships totaling L$50,000. Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa, Chairman of the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus, also provided 55 scholarships worth L$275,000. Additionally, Superintendent of Grand Kru County, Hon. Antoinette Worwlee Nimely, awarded 30 scholarships valued at L$150,000, and County Development Officer Joe N. Sekpeh contributed five scholarships amounting to L$25,000. The Acting President himself contributed four merit-based scholarships.
Dr. Gray instructed the Vice President for Academic Affairs to work closely with the Dean of Academic Affairs and other administrators to ensure that the scholarships provided by Prof. Kobbah-Boley, Senator Bartekwa, and Superintendent Nimely are awarded based on merit, particularly to students whose families are unable to finance their education.
“We are immensely grateful for these scholarships, which will significantly impact the lives of more than 300 students and provide them with much-needed financial relief as they pursue quality education at Grand Kru Technical College,” Dr. Gray stated.
GKTC offers two-year Associate of Science and Arts degrees in six major disciplines, including Education, Agriculture, Engineering & Computer Technology, Public Health, and Business. The college provides 38 courses across 76 sections, divided between morning and afternoon sessions to accommodate students’ schedules. A total of 75 sections are offered during the first semester, with 47 sections in the afternoon and 28 in the morning. Classes meet on various days of the week, ensuring a flexible academic schedule.
Established by an Act of the National Legislature on March 14, 2019, GKTC has been under the direction of a Board of Trustees since January 18, 2022. The board, appointed by former President Dr. George Manneh Weah, has worked diligently to guide the institution in achieving its core values and mission, particularly for the benefit of Grand Kru County.
Through the leadership of the Board, chaired by the distinguished academician Prof. Dr. Weade Kobbah-Boley, GKTC continues to pursue excellence in teaching, learning, and research, aiming to empower communities in Grand Kru County and Liberia as a whole. Faculty workshops and student orientation programs are also being implemented to further enhance the college’s educational impact.
