Vehicle owners and taxi drivers are bracing themselves as the Government of Liberia commences vigorous inspections of vehicles plying the country’s roads to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Monrovia, Liberia, November 13, 2024 –The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Liberian Immigration Service jointly begin vigorous vehicle inspection today, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at key locations across Monrovia.
Speaking Tuesday at a MICAT press briefing, Zolu Kokolu Duyann, head of the inspection team and Assistant Minister of Transport for Land and Rail, said the team’s aim is to assist the Liberia National Police in enforcing traffic laws.
The Inspector General at the Ministry of Transport, Africanous M. Fahnbulleh, says the exercise is a joint effort involving stakeholders.
Mr. Fahnbulleh says that regardless of compliance status, all vehicles will be subjected to the same inspection process, which includes checks on license plates, vehicle registration, and insurance, among other requirements.
According to him, the exercise is meant to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with transportation regulations across the country.
He adds that the focus is also on evaluating vehicles’ roadworthiness, fire safety standards, and adherence to traffic laws.
Also, Col. James Blackee, Inspector General of the Liberia National Fire Service, notes that they will inspect vehicles for fire extinguishers and other essential safety equipment.
The officials emphasized the importance of maintaining road safety and preventing accidents, particularly as traffic volumes typically increase during the Christmas holiday.
