Barclayville, Oct 25, 2024 – The Deputy Commander of the Grand Kru County Police Detachment, Inspector Johnson Doekey, has lamented manpower shortage and the lack of logistic confrontoing the detachment, and therefore appealed to the Central for the deployment of more than one hundred and fifty police officers in Grand Kru for police operations.
Describing lack of sufficent police officers in the county as ”disheartening” given the growth in the County’s population, Deputy Commander Doekey stated that the detachment was only able to deploy one trained officer in each of the eight Statutory Districts for security protection due to thge low strength attending the operation of the county’s police detachment.
The deputy police commander made the statement in Barclayville when he spoke in an interview with Voice of Grand Kru on Tuesday October 22, 2023.
He furthered that the inadequacy of security operatives compounded by the lack of operational vehicles for the LNP and prison compound in the county are some of the impediments challenging police operations at the detachment in combating crimes.
‘’Despite of those challenges, we are doing our best to protect lives and properties because we were trained therefore, we know exactly how to handle issues regardless of the distances, Dorkey said.
While expressing gratitude to the officers within the county for their professionalism and commitment in carrying out their duties, despite numerous challenges.
Inspector Doekey urged the men and women of his detachment to continue in maintaining said professional standards in line of their duties as they actively engage with the central administration of the Liberia National Police to find amicable solutions to address the existing constraints.
The deputy police commander in the county narrated that the county currently has twenty-one assigned police officers, and added that although the current strength of the detachment is concerning, he notwithstanding reaffirmed the detachment’s commitment to fighting crime in Grand Kru County.
Commander Doekey further stressed the need for additional support from the national government to address the resource gaps affecting the detachment, saying that such support is necessary for the police in the county to effectively combat societal issues bordering on police intervention, as the Liberia National Police is the first area of contact under the criminal Justice of the country.
