Julius K. Kanubah, the newly elected President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), is set to guide the union into a new era marked by unity and progress. With a clear vision for revitalizing the PUL, Kanubah’s leadership is focused on fostering stronger collaboration among media professionals and advancing the organization’s influence in shaping the nation’s media landscape.

Under his stewardship, the PUL is expected to prioritize the development of its members, improve professional standards, and advocate for a free and responsible press.

Kanubah’s bold agenda promises transformative growth, bringing together diverse voices within the union to achieve lasting success for the Liberian media community.

“Credibility, integrity, and dignity will be the cornerstones of my leadership,” he asserted. “While we’ve faced challenges, we must remember that the Press Union is a solidarity movement, uniting all of us in a common purpose.”

Addressing previous disputes within the union, Kanubah emphasized that these issues have centered on the integrity of the organization rather than personal conflicts. “Resolving the membership register issue is critical,” he explained. “Once we establish accountability, we can refocus on our mission to scrutinize governance and advocate for social transformation.”

Kanubah also stressed the importance of innovation in leadership, pledging to revive collective bargaining agreements to improve journalists’ salaries and access to health insurance. “It’s vital that we support our members, especially those facing financial challenges,” he noted.

Plans are underway to establish subchapters of the Press Union in every county, particularly beyond Montserrado, to ensure that all voices are represented. “We want our presence felt throughout Liberia, empowering journalists in every region to actively engage with the union,” he stated.

Under Kanubah’s leadership, the PUL is set to embrace transparency and accountability, with quarterly mini-congresses and regular financial updates. “We aspire to make the Press Union an institution defined by integrity,” he concluded. “As Librarians, we must uphold dignity in all our endeavors.”

As Julius K. Kanubah steps into his role as President, the Press Union of Liberia stands ready to embark on a transformative journey, united in purpose and dedicated to strengthening journalism and media ethics in the country.
