The call for Koffa’s resignation has grown louder, as Mr. Cole suggested that the future of the House of Representatives hangs in the balance.

Monrovia, January 15, 2025: Embattled House Speaker Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa is being pressured to quit his top job, as Human Rights Advocate Anthony Cole demands his immediate resignation.

Mr. Cole told a press conference on Monday, January 13, 2025, that Koffa’s resignation would pave the way for smooth democracy and national unity.

He accused Speaker Koffa of allegedly hindering the democracy.

The majority members of the House of Representatives voted last year to remove Cllr. Koffa as the House Speaker and subsequently elected Montserrado County Representative Richard Nagbe Koon as the new Speaker.

However, the minority bloc in the House has rejected the move, though some of his supporters now appear to be crossing over to the majority bloc.

Anthony Cole believes the call for Koffa’s resignation reflects a broader dissatisfaction with the political climate here.

“A stable and functioning House is more critical than ever, as citizens yearn for progress on vital issues such as economic recovery, healthcare, security, agriculture, and education,” he says.

The call for Koffa’s resignation has grown louder, as Cole suggested that the future of the Liberian House of Representatives hangs in the balance.

According to him, stakeholders across the political spectrum are urged to prioritize dialogue and cooperation, ensuring that the people’s voice is heard meaningfully.

Mr. Cole pleaded with lawmakers to act in the best interest of Liberia as the decision for a workable Legislature lies not only with Speaker Koffa but with all those who hold the reins of power in this vibrant West African nation.
